2008 Year of Reading

Library Visits

To help celebrate the National Year of Reading every child at St Peters has been involved in / or is due to go on a visit to their local library ( Blagreaves Library).   The children who have attended so far have really enjoyed this experience- and didnt even seem to mind the 40 minute walk there and back! It is a shame the same can not be said for the teaching staff that accompanied them!

The children were shown around the library and given a talk by the librarian about how everything works, eg) the different genres of books, how they are ordered and how to use the booklet to locate certain books of interest. Every child was also given the opportunity to join the library ( if not already a member) and then choose two books to take out on loan. The children are currently enjoying reading these books either at home or in school.

We hope this experience will encourage the children to return to the library and promote the importance of reading for pleasure. We want every child to see that reading can be FUN!
