Core Subject drop in session for Parents

On the 15th September between 4 and 5 oclock a drop in session was available to parents who wanted to find out more about reading, writing and maths.

When reading with your child it is a good idea to pause to recap what is happening in the story and to predict what might happen next this is a good way of checking whether or not the story is being understood. You can ask questions about the different characters, settings and the story plot as you go all this helps your childs comprehension. It is good for children to see others reading and to read different types of print this might be the newspaper, internet article, shopping list etc.

Writing is something that most of us do each day in all walks of life so it is essential that the skills are developed to be able to write. Your child may like to write the weekly shopping list for you, or keep a journal or write action and adventure stories.

Knowing times tables helps with both multiplication and division questions. The need for mathematical understanding is a skill we need all the time, telling the time, checking our change in the shop, measuring when cooking.

Progression in reading, writing and maths calculation booklets are all available from the school office.
