Forest Schools

Forest Schools at St. Peters Junior School.

As our school is located in a built up area with have limited green space. However, this has not stopped us encouraging our children to engage with nature and the outdoor classroom.
We have recently extended our environmental work, with our creative partners, on becoming a FOREST SCHOOL.

Our forest school partners are Fraser and Katy and they have taken us (2 adults and 12 children) into a local wooded area. The Forest School ethos is about an approach to learning and playing in a forest setting. It is not just about experiencing and appreciating the environment, although this is an important aspect. The activities run by the forest school practitioners promote:
Co-operative working and the development of social skills.
 Independent learning and confidence building.
 Learning new skills.

Sessions can include:
 A warm up circle game.
A game using the boundaries of the space.
Flora and fauna identification
 Shelter building.
Our next steps are to bring some of these activities into school and choose 12 new children to experience FOREST SCHOOL. The attached photos show what a fabulous time we have had so far!
