Year 4 Egyptian Day 2009
On Tuesday the 5th May 2009 Year 4 experienced Egypt for one whole day.
The day began with an introduction about the Ancient Egyptians from Partake theatre company and the children then split into their two classes.
They were encouraged to act out the embalming process of mummification and thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the quite gruesome job of mummifying the Pharoah. They also examined artefacts which would have been used in the burial process and thought about the significance of them.
They went on to smell different materials which represented smells from Ancient Egypt and they were encouraged to think about whether they would have found the scent where the Ancient Egyptians lived, cooked or in the embalming process. The children had to use their noses very carefully and think about what the smell reminded them of. We had all sorts of guesses from lemon sweets to pongy feet!
In the afternoon the children took part in a burial procession drama and really reflected on what it would have been like living in Ancient Egypt. They all dressed up as Egyptians and participated in the activity fully.
All in all a wonderful day was had by year 4.
