During our topic on recycling we learnt a lot about what happens to our rubbish in Derby. We had a visitor from Derby City Council who came to visit school with a huge variety of rubbish to talk about. He explained to the children what happens to the rubbish in each of the different coloured wheelie bins here in Derby.

• He showed us glasses made out of bottles.
• He had coasters made out of shredded plastic bottles.
• He showed us pencils made out of video cassettes.

The children were amazed at the wide range of products that were made from the different items of rubbish that we dispose of.

They learnt about how to reduce the amount of waste they produce, how to reuse items that would normally have ended up in the bin and how to recycle the rubbish that is left.

All in all an informative, enjoyable visit and I am sure the children would agree.
