Year 4

Incredible India!

This is a geography-based topic, focusing on people, religions, food, art and animals in a contrasting country to ours.

We have studied atlases and practised map skills, whilst also looking at land-use and natural biomes in India.

Our French is also geography-based this term as we are looking at French cities and talking about where we live in Derby.

In Science this half term, we have been learning about animals, including humans. We have focused on the human digestive system and the functions of teeth. We even saw Mr Madher's demonstration of how poo was made!

Next half term, we will study Sound and Hearing.

Linking to our theme on India, the R.E. unit is based on Pilgrimage. We learn about special places in different religions and reasons why people make pilgrimages to such places.

In P.E. we are learning a traditional Indian dance called Bhangra. We are learning separate dance moves and will be putting them together to make our own dance routines to a variety of Punjabi music.

We have also been practising our swimming skills at Lonsdale Baths every Tuesday morning.

In P.S.H.E. we are looking at how to welcome new people to our community. We have also created a class charter, based on our school's Code of Conduct.

Our Computing work this term is all about Online Safety and emphasising the importance of using the internet safely and responsibly.

Towards the end of the term, we will also spend some time looking at the festival of Diwali and take part in some arts and crafts.

We are very much looking forward to our residential visit to Lea Green from the 6th to the 8th December.
