Design and Technology

Subject Leader: Miss K Purewal

Our Intent

As a staff we have designed our Design and Technology curriculum to enable our children to be confident learners. We have created a deep and rich curriculum to engage, develop, innovate, and promote children’s learning built upon our key mission statement of ‘Unlocking Our Potential’. The Design and Technology curriculum has been developed hand in hand with our mission statement, through our core values of ‘Perseverance, Courage, Respect and Compassion’.

Through the provision of an engaging curriculum, we believe children will develop curiosity, interest, knowledge and understanding of their immediate environment as well as that of the wider world beyond the boundaries of our school.

The activities designed and undertaken will enable our children to consider the needs of individuals and of society within the context of a caring community. Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to encourage children to use a range of materials and processes and to become creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. We aim to ensure that the activities undertaken at St Peter’s Junior School will impact on the children’s local environment and support them in the wider world to become discriminating and informed consumers and potential innovators. These activities should assist children in developing a greater awareness and understanding of how everyday products are designed and made.
