Geography
Subject Leader: Mrs J Kalirai
Our Intent
Geography is about learning about our world and inspiring children with a curiosity and fascination about its places and people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. It gives children the knowledge, skills and understanding of the diverse places, people and resources that make up the natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes and the interaction between them. Without geographical skills and knowledge, they would not be able to make global connections to the world’s people, cultures, economics and environments. It is essential to their understanding of our interconnected world. We aim to provide real and enhanced experiences, to ensure every pupil develops a love for the subject and reaches their full potential
At St Peter’s, our intent is to provide pupils with a deep understanding of place and the changing environment in which we live in. Teaching Geography ensures every pupil has a better understanding of our human and physical world. The knowledge, skills and values developed in Geography can make a positive contribution to our local community as well as the world through social and environmental action. Pupils will build on their prior knowledge (from KS1) of the local area of St Peter’s and learn how past industries such farming and urban growth have shaped the landscape and society we have today.
Careers in Geography
Careers in Geography continue to grow and many resources that we use to help in work will be developing geographical skills. Our pupils will enter employment that is dominated by geographical change and exploration of the world.
