St Peter's Church of England Junior School

Physical Education

Subject Leader: Mrs R Gallimore

Our Intent

At St Peter’s we want our children to be fit and healthy, to enjoy taking part in PE, sport and physical activity and to have the opportunities to engage in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. We want our children to develop themselves mentally, physically, personally and socially.

In doing so we will teach our children to develop the following qualities and attributes:

Perserverance, Resilience and determination – Challenging ourselves to learn and grow: keep working hard to improve skills to reach high quality outcomes, understand what it takes to persevere and succeed without giving up easily and being able to deal with disappointment, going back to try again;

Courage, Discipline and dedication – Being resilient in challenging times: Learn how to select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas to suit activities that need different approaches, set personal targets and challenges giving our very best efforts to achieve them and compete against each other individually and as teams;

Compassion, Co-operation and teamwork – Treating others how we wish to be treated: Work well within a variety of group dynamics supporting each other to improve and be successful and apply tactical and strategical thinking to overcome problems;

Respect and humility – Celebrating the uniqueness of all individuals: Acknowledge the success of others whilst focussing on improving aspects of our own performance, evaluate our own and the performance of others with grace and dignity and show respect for selves and others including officials.

Active, healthy lifestyles - Realise and understand the physical and mental effects of exercise on the body, and acquire and develop skills in a range of physical activities and contexts.

At St Peter’s we provide our pupils with opportunities to experience several elements throughout the different areas of activity referred to in the National Curriculum. These include competitive games, gymnastic activities, dance, athletic activities, outdoor and adventurous activities and swimming.
